Atoms Athletic Booster Club
Supporting the Student-Athletes of Annandale High School
Who are the Boosters?
The members of the Atoms Booster Club are students, parents, staff, alumni, and interested community members who not only want to help to show their interest in student activities but also want to help build a foundation for our student/athletes who will become Atoms alumni and carry on the Annandale Atoms traditions.
The Atoms Athletic Booster Club is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization of the US Internal Revenue Code.
What we do
The purpose of the Atoms Booster Club is to promote, support, and create an active interest in the Annandale High School athletic programs among students, parents, and the community at large. While doing so, the Boosters work to uphold the highest standard of conduct and demonstrate characteristics that would shed a positive light on the community and students of Annandale High School.
The members of the Atoms Boosters Club are proud of the many enhancements brought to the AHS campus over the past decade to include:
- four-foot “ANNANDALE” lettering overlooking Four Year Run;
- the purchase of a “pit cover” for the long jump pit and cement the area between the jump runways;
- the purchase of new basketballs and locking ball racks;
- New batting cages were installed and renovations to the infield area for Carter Field; and
- the purchase of new football uniforms.
We would like to continue to enhance the AHS athletic campus through projects such as:
- Student Scholarships – We annually award four scholarships to deserving Annandale students/athletes.
- Atoms Spirit Banners – Replace the spirit banners on the light standards on Four Year Run.
- Red Seats – Install red seats for Bolding Stadium and Carter Field.
- Uniforms – Purchase new uniforms for the AHS boys and girls soccer teams and the AHS baseball and softball teams.
- Team Warm-ups – Purchase new warm-ups for the AHS swim and dive teams.
Volunteers
How can you help? You can start by joining the Atoms Boosters. This is a great way to be involved with your kids and your community.
The Atoms Booster Club volunteers help to take the burden off of the coaching staff and let them do what they do best; coaching the student/athletes. Ask your student/athlete’s coach how you can help them. Volunteer opportunities may include timekeepers, scorekeepers, team fundraising coordinators, team dinner coordinators, and concessions sales staff. Volunteers can also help prepare team email notices and website updates.
Student Honors and Awards
Atomic Achievement Award
After each athletic season, the Annandale High School’s Athletics Department and the Atoms Booster Club award the Atomic Achievement Award to recognize the academic achievements and athletic accomplishments of student-athletes in the program. The Atomic Achievement Award is presented to one student-athlete in each sport who best displays high character, shows dedication as a team player, is a good teammate, a good student, and a hard worker.
Mary Read Award
The Mary Read Award is presented annually to the Atomic Achievement Award winner in girl’s lacrosse. The award is named in honor of Mary Read, a graduate of Annandale High School. Read was 19 on April 16, 2007, when she and 29 other people were fatally shot during a shooting spree that occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. At Annandale, she was the school band president and clarinet section leader, played lacrosse, and was a member of the school’s homecoming court as a senior.
Fundraising
While the Fairfax County Public School System funds the coaches’ salaries, officials, and local transportation, volunteer organizations like the Atoms Booster Club provide funding for other athletics-related expenses to include everything else (equipment maintenance, student support, and scholarships, and field improvements and maintenance).
While our students/athletes have a responsibility to raise their own team funds, as needed, the Atoms Boosters try to supplement funding for individual team expenses and work to lower that burden by arranging corporate sponsors and by offering tax-deductible sponsorships for team activities.
